Cllr Hilary Myers
Representing Todmorden Town Council
Following a varied career as an English teacher in Cairo, a bookseller in Wales and a London and British Isles tour guide, in 1988 Hilary settled in the Calder Valley to raise her family. For many years now she has worked in the field of disability and employment, fighting for social inclusion on behalf of disadvantaged groups. She shares a passion for community engagement and local regeneration with her partner, Dr. Lindsay Smales, an Urban Design lecturer and consultant.
She has served as a Calderdale Councillor and is a dedicated Governor of Todmorden High School. As a Director of UCVR Ltd, Hilary is committed to a 25 year vision for achieving well-being and prosperity throughout the Upper Calder Valley. In her role as Chair of the Tourism Action Group, she worked hard to persuade the local authority of the value of tourism to the local economy and supported the campaign to save Todmorden’s Tourist Information Centre.
Following her election to Todmorden Town Council in 2007, she was nominated to represent the Council on the Board of Todmorden Pride along with Cllr Margareta Holmstedt.
