Fielden Wharf Scoops Prestigious Award

Fielden Wharf, Todmorden received a Commendation in the “Community” category at The Waterways Renaissance Awards Ceremony on 12th March 2008.

The Awards, which are run by The Waterways Trust and BURA (British Urban Regeneration Association), recognise best practise in sustainable waterway regeneration and development throughout the UK.  We are delighted that Fielden Wharf has scooped this prestigious award.

Fielden Wharf is one of the first projects delivered as part of the Upper Calder Valley Renaissance Market Towns Programme.  A long derelict building in the conservation area of Todmorden, adjacent to Fielden Wharf, has been purchased, demolished and replaced with a high quality landscaping scheme at a key gateway to Todmorden.  The scheme was designed by Calderdale Council and local volunteer groups, Todmorden Pride and Todmorden in Bloom.

The Wharf, on the Rochdale canal, includes moorings, a sanitary station and is enhanced by sculptures and decorative panels designed by the town artist, local children and produced by a local craftsman.

Vistas to the canal have increased and with the improved access the Wharf is well used, benefiting a wide range of businesses in the town centre and providing a much enjoyed public open air amenity.
